Faced with an hour to yourself (perhaps a problem you don’t often have), what do you do with free time?

Any free time I have is spent either walking our dogs, Georgia and Penny, or in our gardens battling the never-ending weeds. I’ve never had much of a green thumb, but since moving out of the city to our farmhouse I’ve discovered that a few hours spent working in the garden can be almost Zen-like.

What is the thing you bought in the last three months that you have most enjoyed?

We recently bought a new set of patio furniture that is so comfortable. I’ve basically been living outside since we got it, soaking in the summer weather and quiet moments before the baby arrives.

What’s the last song you listened to?

"Sunday Morning" by The Velvet Underground.

Did you learn anything new in the last 12 months that has surprised you?

Everything about this journey has come as a surprise! I listened to so many birth and pregnancy podcasts and read seemingly all of the recommended books, so I like to think I was pretty well-versed in what to expect; so far though, it’s been much different to actually experience things firsthand.

What is a parenting quality you admire in one of your parents, friends of siblings that you’d like to emulate when you become a mother?

I really admire our friends who let their kids be kids, encouraging the messiness that comes with spending the day playing outside.2020 has dealt us all with lots of challenges - what was a low moment in 2020 and how did you overcome or face it?

As a small business owner, the onset of the pandemic was a very uncertain and scary time. My co-founder and I leaned into our network of peers who really came together to figure out what the new normal could look like. As a result, we ended up coming out of 2020 with some incredible new friendships with other women in our industry.

What are you most looking forward to in a post-vaccine world? What bar, restaurant, or place are you most eager to visit?

I’ve been so eager to return to Bermuda after visiting for the first time a few years ago! It’s such a short trip from New York to end up on a beach in paradise.

Do you believe in setting personal goals? If so, how do you hold yourself accountable to them?

I’ve learned to be flexible in setting goals (I never set out to start my own company!), and instead focus on building a life and career that I can be proud of.

How important is community to you, and how do you go about building and nurturing it for your family?

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and that’s one of the reasons I was hesitant at first to move out of the city a couple years ago. We didn’t have a built-in network up here at all, but we’ve been so lucky to make some amazing new friends who have been so welcoming. We’re so excited to bring our own baby up among this community!Shop Shannon's Look: Tie-Neck Drop Waist Dress
