Faced with an hour to yourself (perhaps a problem you don’t often have), what do you do with free time?
Read! I am always looking for spare moments to sneak in a few pages of a good book. That and call friends and family from home in California.
What is the thing you bought in the last three months that you have most enjoyed?
A paddling pool for my 20 month-old; watching her splash around in it and her palpable excitement when it’s “swimming time” constantly makes me laugh.
What’s the last song you listened to?
"Baa Baa Black Sheep" — my daughter currently sings it on repeat all day long!Did you learn anything new in the last 12 months that has surprised you?
The short answer is YES. Between raising a daughter, adjusting to working from home, and navigating life in the Covid world, I have learned a lot. Mostly that not everything in life goes to plan and that’s ok — that’s literally what life is about! I’ve learned to adapt my plans or throw them out the window and make new ones.
What is a parenting quality you admire in one of your parents, friends of siblings that you’d like to emulate when you become a mother?
That laughter is usually the solution to most problems. I remember my parents laughing all the time when we were growing up and now that I’m raising my own family, I’m seeing how laughing at all the ups and downs of childhood is usually the best way through!
2020 has dealt us all with lots of challenges - what was a low moment in 2020 and how did you overcome or face it?
My daughter was only 5 months-old when Covid hit and we were supposed to take her home to California that first week to meet my family and friends. That trip was cancelled as were three other attempts after that and it was devastating to me that she was growing and changing every day and my family could only witness it on Facetime. We did finally make it home in December 2020 and it was worth the wait to see her with her uncles for the first time! What are you most looking forward to in a post-vaccine world? What bar, restaurant, or place are you most eager to visit?
My husband and I have a trip to Marbella, Spain that has been rebooked four times since Fall 2019. We *hope* to make it there next Spring and I’m just keeping my fingers crossed until then!
Do you believe in setting personal goals? If so, how do you hold yourself accountable to them?
Definitely believe in setting them, not so sure how great I am at holding myself accountable but writing them down and sharing them with my husband certainly helps!
How important is community to you, and how do you go about building and nurturing it for your family?
Very important, from daily Facetime with family who aren’t in the same country to weekly visits with friends who are, I think staying in touch — virtually or IRL — is the best way to keep our community strong.Shop Hayley's Look: Striped Square Neck Dress, Shirred Sleeve Dress
